Description
The Ouch Tin card game is a light, fast, and entertaining card game designed for families and younger players. In this desert-themed adventure, players search for colorful cactus flowers while trying to avoid the sharp spikes hidden on the cards.
Created by Romain Caterdjian and Théo Rivière and illustrated by Fran Collado, the game combines simple rules with playful risk-taking mechanics that keep every round exciting.
Recommended for 2 to 5 players ages five and up, the Ouch Tin card game plays in about ten minutes, making it perfect for quick game sessions, family gatherings, or travel.
Explore the Desert for Flowers
At the start of the game, players shuffle the 44 cactus cards and place them in a central deck. Six cards are then drawn and placed face down in a row on the table.
These cards represent the cacti that players will explore in search of flowers. The more flowers shown on the back of a card, the greater the reward—but also the higher the risk of encountering dangerous cactus spikes.
On their turn, players choose one of the six cards and decide from which side to flip it: top, bottom, left, or right.
If the chosen side reveals cactus spikes… Ouch! The player gets pricked and must discard the card. If no spikes appear, the player safely collects the card and adds it to their play area.
Special Desert Animals
Hidden among the cactus cards are desert animals that add special effects to the game.
If a player reveals one of these animals without getting pricked by a cactus, they gain its ability. The viper allows players to take cards from opponents who get pricked on their next turn. The fennec fox grants an extra turn, though taking another risk could cause the player to lose the card.
These special effects add excitement and unexpected twists to the game.
Risk and Reward with Red Flowers
Not all cactus flowers are equal. Some cards feature red flowers, which carry additional risk.
If a player gets pricked while attempting to collect a cactus with a red flower, they must discard the card and also lose another card from their collection.
However, red flowers also bring rewards. At the end of the game, the player who has collected the most red flowers receives five bonus points.
Scoring and Victory
The game ends when a player collects eight cards or when the central deck runs out.
Players then count their points. Each flower collected is worth one point, with bonus points awarded for the most red flowers and for collecting sets of four different colored flowers.
The player with the highest score wins the game.
Perfect for Families and Young Players
The Ouch Tin card game is part of the Devir Pocket series, known for offering great games in compact and portable formats. Its small tin packaging makes it easy to carry and perfect for travel.
The rules can also be adjusted for younger players by removing some advanced elements such as desert animals or the red flower penalties.
