Description
The Veggies card game is a clever and fast-paced card-laying game where players compete to build the most successful market stall. By carefully placing cards and forming the largest groups of fruits and vegetables, players try to score the most points while avoiding pesky mice that threaten their produce.
Designed by Jog Kung and illustrated by Roman Kucharski and Àlex Santaló, this colorful strategy game offers quick gameplay and simple rules that make it accessible for families and casual players alike.
The Veggies card game supports 2 to 4 players ages 8 and up, with games lasting around 20 minutes, making it perfect for quick sessions, family game nights, or travel gaming.
Build the Best Market Stall
At the start of the game, the 40 cards are shuffled into a deck. Three cards are then revealed to form the central market, while each player receives two cards. Players keep one card in hand and place the other face up to begin building their personal market stall.
Each card features six spaces that may contain different symbols:
-
Fruits and vegetables (strawberries, bananas, grapes, mushrooms, and carrots)
-
Empty crates or pallets
-
Mice
Players want to collect and connect as many goods as possible while avoiding empty boxes and mice that reduce their score.
Flexible Card Placement
During their turn, players add one card to their market stall. They may either play the card from their hand or take one of the available cards from the central market.
Cards can be rotated freely and placed vertically or horizontally. They must be placed adjacent to at least one existing card in the player’s stall. Cards may also partially cover other cards already in play, allowing players to hide undesirable spaces such as empty crates or mice.
This flexible placement system allows players to create larger groups of matching goods while strategically minimizing penalties.
Strategic Scoring
The game ends once each player has eight cards in their stall.
To calculate the score, players identify their largest connected group of a specific fruit or vegetable type. Groups are formed by orthogonally adjacent spaces with the same symbol.
Players then score points based on the size of their largest group and the number of separate groups of that same product they have in their stall. Finally, players subtract two points for each mouse present in their market.
The player with the highest score wins the game.
